Coronavirus: 108 Mexicans dead in US; mostly in New York

• MIGRANTS: At least 108 Mexican nationals have died in the US from the coronavirus outbreak with 86 of these deaths happening in the state of New York, according to new Mexican government data. The numbers only include those deaths reported to Mexican consular officers.

• CONSULAR: “In the case of deceased persons, consular assistance has been provided for the transfer of remains to (Mexican) territory. In addition, actions are coordinated with the state health authorities to observe health protocols”, the Mexican Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

• DOMESTIC: As of late Tuesday, Mexico reported 2,785 coronavirus cases and 141 deaths in Mexican territory. Mexico City accounts for 25% share of the total confirmed cases. The neighboring state of State of Mexico is second place in number of total confirmed cases with an 11% share.

• OTHER: The Mexican Government reported 7 deaths of Mexican nationals in Illinois, 3 in California, 3 in New Jersey and 9 in several other US states. Some 11.2 million Mexican immigrants live in the US according to 2017 US Census data, analyzed by the Pew Research Center.
