• DEATH: A 43-year-old police officer died Saturday in Mexico City after contracting coronavirus. At least other four force members are under observation at home and at hospitals to determine if they also fell victims of the outbreak. The dead officer suffered from diabetes.

• NUMBERS: As of late Sunday, Mexico’s Ministry of Health reported 2,143 confirmed coronavirus cases and a total of 94 confirmed deaths. Mexico City accounts for 26% share of confirmed cases. In second place is neighboring Estado de México with 9% share.

• COMPLICATIONS: “These people continue to be people who have characteristics, either due to age or due to a disease, that makes them more susceptible to complications”, said Mexico’s undersecretary of health, Hugo López-Gatell, who is in charge of the epidemiological response

• OFFICERS: Diabetes and hypertension are chronic illnesses that can complicate a response to coronavirus if one is infected. Mexico is the largest country in Latin America with the highest rate of adults with diabetes (15.2%) according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF).
