• INCOME: Some 39% of Mexicans saw its source of income stop days after the government declared a national health emergency suspending all nonessential activity and asking people to remain home due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to a poll by Reforma newspaper.

• BLOW: Among 400 Mexican adults surveyed via phone, the poll found that 19% of them have already lost their job and 25% of have seen their salaries cut due to the economic shock. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador gets mixed numbers in regards to his handling of the emergency.

• PRESIDENT: “The President garners an increased approval in the handling of the coronavirus situation which is explained by an effect of solidarity with the leader in the face of an external threat. Yet, the percentage of those disapproving him remains constant,” said Reforma newspaper.

• EMERGENCY: Most economic forecasts see a drastic contraction of the Mexican economy in 2020 due to the hit from the coronavirus emergency. So far, the health emergency order is expected to last until April 30th but Mexico is still far from seeing the peak of the outbreak.
