• DEBACLE: President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said today that the economic crisis from the coronavirus pandemic will be short-lived despite a long list of forecasts predicting Mexico facing a deep economic contraction in 2020 including his own government’s.

• COUNTER: Mexico’s Ministry of Finance said Wednesday that the country could face an economic contraction of up to 3.9% of GDP in 2020. López Obrador said he did not agree with it. Meanwhile, Bank of America pegged the fall in GDP at 8%.

• OPTIMIST: “This is a temporary situation. If we wanted to go deeper, I would say that this is a public health transitory crisis that also includes the economic sphere. A transitory crisis. This means that we are going to get out of it soon. This is not a debacle”, said López Obrador

• PACKAGE: While other countries in Latin America already presented relief packages to deal with the economic emergency, the Mexican government has yet to present meaningful proposals. López Obrador said that he’ll be presenting a plan until Sunday April 5.
