• ATTACKS: At least six people were killed and nine were hurt Monday in two different attacks against bars in the industrial cities of Celaya and Irapuato in the central state of Guanajuato. Since 2018, the state has seen a wave criminal violence including repeated attacks against bars and nightclubs.
• CELAYA: In Celaya (pop. 494,000), unknown unidentified gunmen opened fire and launched some sort of explosive device Monday evening against the “Negros Bar” killing 4 people, according to state authorities cited by local media. This is the fifth attack against a bar in Celaya this year.
• IRAPUATO: Earlier on Monday, three unidentified gunmen opened fire against a bar called “Oasis de la Cruz” in Irapuato (pop. 574,000) killing at least 2 men and hurting 4 others. In 2018, the same bar had already been the target of a shooting that killed one man.
• VIOLENCE: The industrial corridor between the cities of Salamanca and Celaya has been the epicenter of a violent confrontation between two criminal groups in Guanajuato that has resulted in at least 1,341 murders this year until February, according to government data.
