• PHASE: The Mexican government has increased the aggressiveness of its mitigation measures against the coronavirus outbreak after formally announcing Tuesday the beginning of the “community spread” phase where some cases cannot be traced back to foreign travel.
• WORKPLACE: As part of the new phase, the Mexican government the private sector to allow workers older than 65 to remain at home without cutting salaries for at least one month. The government is asking the same for workers with preexisting medical conditions and pregnant women.
• RECOMMENDATION: “Stay home as long as possible, postpone public events, cancel public events, parties, baptisms, avoid them, for at least one month from March 23 to April 19”, said Hugo López-Gattell, undersecretary of health, also banning events of more than 100 people.
• SITUATION: As of Tuesday, the Mexican government reported 405 confirmed cases of patients infected with coronavirus and 5 confirmed deaths. The cases are spread throughout all states in the country except for the central state of Tlaxcala. Three of the 5 deaths happened in Mexico City.
