• EMERGENCY: A plurality of Mexicans, 44%, disapprove the way that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is handling the coronavirus outbreak while only 37% approve it, according to a new national poll released by Mexico City’s newspaper Reforma.

• DEFENSE: “We decided that we were going to be guided by the opinion…of health scientists. We have not acted hastily, we have ignored assumptions, we have acted with professionalism, we have left politicking aside, we have confronted our adversaries”, said López Obrador on Tuesday.

• CRITICISM: Both locally and in the international press, López Obrador has been criticized for not suspending mass public rallies during the initial phase of the outbreak. According to Reforma’s poll, 82% of Mexicans would like the President to cancel these events.

• LOCKDOWN: Regarding a potential lockdown to fight the pandemic, a majority of Mexicans, 53%, do not think is feasible for them to be at home for three weeks due to their jobs or economic activities. The poll was conducted via phone among 400 adults between March 19-23.
