• CASES: Mexico reported Wednesday evening its first coronavirus fatality amid a total of 118 confirmed cases distributed in 23 states across the country. The first death involved a 41-year old male who recently attended a music concert according to authorities.
• CONDOLENCES: “(This Wednesday) in Mexico, the first person with COVID-19 died. He started experiencing symptoms on March 9 and suffered from diabetes. The Minister of Health expresses his condolences to his relatives. Rest in peace”, said the Mexican Ministry of Health.
• DISTRIBUTION: Confirmed coronavirus cases are now present across all regions of Mexico, from the northwest US-border state of Baja California to the southeast Caribbean coast state of Quintana Roo. Most of the cases involve foreign travel to countries like Spain, the US, or Italy.
• COMMUNITY: Mexican authorities have not yet officially reported community spread of coronavirus, but several institutions have started to take major measures to slow down contagion. Schools across Mexico will go into a one-month hiatus starting on Friday.
