• GROWTH: The number of cases of coronavirus reported in Mexico grew from 41 on Saturday to 53 on Sunday with no deaths reported yet, according to the Mexican Ministry of Health. The cases are spread across 13 states from northwestern Sinaloa to southeastern Yucatán.
• MEASURES: “A ‘healthy distance’ helps so that, if one is infected, he does not infect someone else”, said Hugo López-Gatell, Mexico’s undersecretary of health, who recommended suspending large public gatherings and promoted telework. He added that mitigation measures could escalate.
• SCHOOLS: In its most aggressive action so far, the Mexican government ordered for schools at all levels to be closed for one month starting on Friday March 20, an action that effectively expanded the originally scheduled two-week Easter holidays (“Semana Santa”, by its Spanish acronym)
• FAITH: “I have a lot of faith that we’re going to move our beloved Mexico forward. The misfortunes, the pandemics won’t do anything to us! Nothing of that!”, said President Andrés Manuel López Obrador while visiting Sunday the state of Guerrero where he hold rallies with hundreds attending.
