Coronavirus: Mexico confirms 12 cases in 6 states

• LATEST: Mexican health authorities confirmed that as Wednesday evening there have been 12 confirmed cases of coronavirus in six different states. Due to the fact that all of the cases are connected to foreign travel, Mexico will not change its phase one level of response.
• STATES: The Mexican states where the cases have been confirm include the northern state of Nuevo León, the southern state of Chiapas and the central states of Puebla, Estado de México, Querétaro and Mexico City. All cases are related to foreign trips to Europe and also the US.
• BORDERS: “(In Mexico) there is no anticipated prediction of a closure of airports, seaports or borders in response to this epidemic. All actions however are considered”, said Hugo López-Gatell, Mexico’s deputy minister of health, when asked about the US restrictions of travel from Europe.
• DOUBTS: Yesterday, newswire Bloomberg cited the director of one of Mexico’s most renowned private hospital saying that he was worried about the size of the testing effort for coronavirus around the country. Other countries with smaller populations in Latin America have more confirmed cases.
