• PROTEST: Days ahead a nationwide protest of Mexican women against gender violence, workplace abuse and all forms of women discrimination, Mexico’s Interior Minister, Olga Sánchez Cordero, said she understood the mobilization as a protest against violence but not against the government.
• POLL: According to a poll by Reforma newspaper published this week, 74% of Mexicans believe violence against women rose during the first year in office of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and 55% believed the President had been sensible in addressing rising femicides.
• ANGRY: “They are very angry at the violence they suffer in their family, in their workplace, in their work environment, in their private sphere…in all areas of their private and public life. That’s why they are angry. They are not angry with the government”, said Interior Minister, Olga Sánchez Cordero.
• DATA: The latest data from Mexico’s national public security system shows that 319 women were killed in Mexico last January counting both alleged murders and femicides. In Mexico, femicide is the specific criminal offense where a woman is targeted for murder just because of her gender.
