• EXTRADITION: The Mexican government extradited Rubén Oseguera González (also known as “El Menchito”), the son of one of Mexico’s most powerful drug-trafficking kingpins to the US on Thursday, where he faces drug trafficking charges, according to government sources.

• CARTEL: Oseguera González is the son of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, aka “Mencho”, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG by its acronym in Spanish), considered by the US as one of the five most dangerous transnational criminal organizations in the world.

• INDICTMENT: “Oseguera Gonzalez…served as the CJNG second in command until the time of his arrest by Mexican authorities in June 2015”, the US Department of Justice said in 2018 while unveiling an indictment filed before a US district court in the District of Columbia.

• ACQUITTED: Oseguera González spent the past five years jailed in three different locations in Mexico while fighting five different criminal proceedings against him for charges like organized crime, drug trafficking, money laundering and use of illegal firearms. He was acquitted of all charges.
