• WAVE: Mexico City experienced an alarming Thursday with several incidents of gun violence, robberies and, homicides across the city inciting public panic from the “hipstery” Condesa area to the working-class district of Santa Martha Acatitla, where two men were murdered.

• INCIDENTS: According to authorities, four men robbed a shoe store in upscale Polanco, three bodyguards were involved in a shooting at a restaurant in Guadalupe Inn, eight suspects robbed a jewelry store in opulent Altavista, and a woman was the victim of a violent robbery in Condesa.

• PANIC: “I did think they were coming (to kill) someone who was eating in the restaurant. Those who shoot were wearing suits. I heard about four shots and then they left the parking lot”, said a street vendor who witnessed the scene outside a restaurant in the Guadalupe Inn district.

• CONTEXT: According to the most recent data from Mexico’s National Public Security System, last year was Mexico City’s most violent year in at least two decades totaling 1,504 homicide and femicide victims. However, the city’s murder rate is well below other more violent Mexican states.
