• TICKET: Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador unveiled yesterday what he said was the prototype of a lottery-style ticket, that would be used to raffle off the USD 200 million presidential jet, that he has presented as a symbol of past governments luxuries.
• CANADA: Considered by multiple analysts as a populist distraction from more pressing issues, such as the improvised transition to a new centralized health care system, López Obrador said that he had offered the jet to the Canadian Government but if they did not want it the raffle would move forward.
• NEED: “By February 15 we need to have it settled (whether Canada wants it or not). Because it takes time to sell the (raffle) tickets… If they (the previous government) were able to buy this plane, which was absurd, how can we not solve how to sell it?”, López Obrador asked.
• GAME: With job approval ratings hovering around 70% after a year in office, López Obrador has said that the raffle would require 6 million tickets worth USD 25 to be sold and that ultimately its proceeds would help pay for medical equipment needed in public hospitals.
