• SUSPICIOUS: Mexico’s health authorities will confirm Thursday whether a 57-year old university professor currently residing in the Northern state of Tamaulipas -and who recently traveled to China- tests positive or not as the first case of the new deadly coronavirus.
• MEASURES: According to authorities, the man under suspicion of being a carrier of the deadly respiratory disease traveled to Wuhan, China, between December 25 and January 10. Earlier this week, Mexico increased its monitoring measures at international airports.
• ISOLATED: “At this time, none (of the people close to him) have signs or symptoms of respiratory disease. All these people have been identified, none are sick”, said Jose Luis Alomía, epidemiology chief at Mexico’s Ministry of Health, who informed, the professor remains isolated.
• COMMITTEE: Mexican authorities said Wednesday they have already installed a scientific committee to investigate the chances of the outbreak to arrive in Mexico and have already developed protocols to brief international bodies like the World Health Organization (WHO).
