• BATTLE: Mexican military personnel deployed in the state of Tamaulipas killed 11 armed civilians after a confrontation south from the Texas border along a stretch of highway known to be one of the most crime ridden areas in the region, state authorities said Thursday.

• RIBEREÑA: Last week, the military commander in the area Carlos Arturo Pancardo had warned that the stretch of highway running parallel to the Rio Grande on the Mexican side of the US-Mexico border -known as La Ribereña- was the “hottest” flash point for violent crime in Tamaulipas.

• BRUSH: “Military personnel..were subject to an attack by people who were hidden in the brush”, the Tamaulipas authorities said in a press release citing a military report about the incident in the small small town of Los Angeles in the municipality of Miguel Alemán (pop. 27,000).

• OFF LIMITS: Just across the Texan town of Roma, the area where the battle occurred is considered unsafe given the presence of organized crime groups including the Cartel del Noreste drug gang. The US Government has an active “do not travel” advisory for Tamaulipas.
