• FINDING: Texas-based Talos Energy touted a new study showing that production estimates for the Zama oilfied in Mexico -the first for a US company in 80 years- could reach over 1 billion barrels of oil and push to close unitization negotiations with state-owned Pemex soon.

• JOINT: Known as one of the world’s most prolific shallow waters project , Talos Energy also said that 40% of the Zama oilfield extends to an adjacent Pemex block. In November, Talos Energy released estimates assuring that exploitation will generate Mexico USD 28 billion in fiscal income

• URGENCY: “Talos and its partners…have made great progress in meeting the milestones required to keep our world class Zama discovery on pace for a 2020 FID (Final Investment Decision) if we can conclude unitization discussions soon. Doing so will allow us to establish first oil in 2023″, Talos said.

• REPORTS: In October, media reports stated that the Mexican government was wrangling behind the scenes for Pemex to become the operator of the Zama oilfield. So far, Pemex has yet to drill a well to confirm the joint reservoir and some in the industry question also its technical capabilities.
