• GUNFIGHTS: Thee armed men died Tuesday after a series of gunfights in the border city of Nuevo Laredo that spread into Wednesday and that presumably were linked to attacks by the Cartel del Noreste gang against the Tamaulipas state police.

• GOVERNOR: “After the cowardly attacks by the Cartel del Noreste in Nuevo Laredo, the Tamaulipas government will not lower its guard and it will continue to act firmly against criminals”, said Francisco Cabeza de Vaca, the Governor of Tamaulipas.

• REPEAT: According to citizen reports in social media, Wednesday attacks targeted a hotel and a hospital used by the state police. The gunfights reminded of a previous episode in November when at least 8 people died during a series of attacks by the Cartel del Noreste criminal group.

• WARNING: The US Consulate in Nuevo Laredo issued a public alert due to reports of “multiple gunfights throughout the city” and advised US citizens to shelter in place. In December, the US Department of State insisted “not to travel” to Tamaulipas, the state bordering Texas.
