• NUMBERS: The number of cruise passengers arriving at Mexico’s Caribbean port of Cozumel will close the year surpassing the 4.1 million record of 2017 reinforcing the island’s place as one the world’s top cruise destination, according to Mexican government data.

• VISITORS: Passenger traffic in Cozumel reached the 4.0 million mark in November growing at an annual rate of 6.4%, according to Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism. However, the local hotel association says that hotel occupancy rate in the island is not necessarily as strong.

• GOAL: “The expectation is to at least maintain the hotel occupancy rate that we had in December of previous years: above 70 percent. Specifically for this New Year it is expected that we close this year with above 85% hotel occupancy”, said Ulises Guzmán, head of Cozumel’s hotels association.

• THIRD: Given the numbers or recent years, Cozumel is already the third busiest cruise ports in the world by passenger traffic behind Port Miami and Port Canaveral in Florida. In 2017, Cozumel surpassed Port Everglades in Florida and was already ahead of Nassau in the Bahamas.
