• BOOTS: Exports of men cowboy boots made in Mexico grew 16% during the first 10 months of 2019 continuing a sustained trend of recent years based on high value artisanal leather manufacturing in the central state of Guanajuato, according to industry data.
• DATA: According to Guanajuato’s footwear industry association (CICEG), men’s cowboy boots exports from Mexico totaled USD 79.2 million between January and October of this year. Back in 2018, the number for the period was 68 million.
• ARTISANAL: “Mexico is highly competitive in cowboy boots because it has a very artisanal crafting system that is very attractive to European, American and even Asian consumers”, says Alejandro Gómez, head of CICEG.
• LEATHER: According to the industry, Mexico’s footwear exports were valued at USD 537 million and almost three quarters of them bound to the US market. At least 35% of total Mexican footwear exports were leather products including cowboy boots.
