• BEGINNING: The long awaited 1.32 Bcf/d La Laguna-Aguascalientes natural gas pipeline by Mexico City-based Fermaca began operations on Tuesday bringing closer the goal of finally completing the Wahalajara system that aims to connect West Texas with Central Mexico.
• DELAY: With imports accounting for 69.2% of Mexico’s natural gas supply in September according to Mexican Government DACA, Fermaca’s La Laguna-Aguascalientes was one of the pipelines that was delayed this year when the state-owned utility CFE asked to renegotiate transport contracts.
• CRUCIAL: “Probably the most important new pipeline infrastructure in Mexico, certainly as it relates to moving more gas from West Texas, is the Fermaca network of pipelines that is being built from the border to Central Mexico”, said RBN Energy LLC’S Jason Ferguson in a report back in October.
• PROJECTION: The completion of La Laguna-Aguascalientes pipeline -along with that of the Sur de Texas-Tuxpan pipeline- could push US natural gas pipeline exports to Mexico to reach an average of 5.8 Bcf/d for the 2019-2020 winter (a 21% yearly increase), according to Energy Ventures Analysis.
