• SHARE: Mexico’s share of the US imported beer market has grown to 71% during the first ten months of 2019 (up from the 62% recorded for the same period of 2015) with total yearly imports up by 4.4% according analyzed by the Beer Institute, a US trade group.
• BRANDS: Last year numbers show that the growth in Mexican beer imports was anchored in an increasing popularity of popular brands like Corona and Modelo (by Constellation Brands) but also by new products like Dos Equis Mexican Pale Ale (by Heineken)
• POPULARITY: Close to 20% of US adults are consuming Mexican beer showcasing the increasing popularity of brands like Modelo and Dos Equis, according to a 2016 market research study by MRI-Simmons which also makes clear consumption of Mexican beer extends beyond the Hispanic market.
• BINATIONAL: At the same time, Mexico has become the US largest market for barley and barley product exports, with 402,000 metric tons exported there in the 2018/2019 marketing year, per the US Grains Council.; in some cases, Mexican breweries sourcing the totality of its barley from the US.
