• EXPANSION: Emirates Airlines has expanded its interline agreement with Mexico’s Interjet which will allow its customers to access connections to 55 destinations in The Americas while at the same time allowing Interjet customers wide access to places in Africa, Asia and Europe.

• TURBULENCE: The announcement arrives just days before Emirates begins its Dubai-Barcelona-Mexico City service and at a time when Interjet deals with litigation with Mexico’s tax authorities and after months of litigation by Aeromexico to prevent Emirates to service the Mexican market.

• FIRST STEP: “The interline agreement is only the beginning of our collaboration, we hope to explore more mutual opportunities and announce a broader alliance in the near future”, said Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ chief commercial officer, in a press release distributed by Interjet.

• NUMBERS: In terms of domestic service, Interjet has a share of 19.7% of the Mexican market between January and October, making it the third largest Mexican airline (only behind Volaris and Vivaaerobus) transporting a total of 8.7 million passengers during the same period.
