• RECORD: Incidents of cargo truck theft in Mexico reached record highs during the US 2019 Fiscal Year (October 2018 to September 2019) with a total of 11,571 tractor trucks stolen, an increase of 2.9% from US 2018 Fiscal Year, according to Mexico’s insurance industry.
• ALARM: “The fact that 2,558 Kenworth tractor truck units are being stolen should be something for us to be alarmed a lot”, said Manuel Escobedo, the head of the Mexican Association of the Insurance Industry (AMIS) talking about the brand of trucks mainly targeted for robberies.
• DOUBLE: Cargo truck thefts in Mexico have more than doubled since the 5,941 stolen units during the US 2014 Fiscal Year, something that the insurance industry is directly linked to the growth of organized crime; according to AMIS, authorities recover 40% of cargo trucks
• GEOGRAPHY: More than half of the cargo theft reports in Mexico during 2018 occurred in the highways of Central Mexico, specifically in the states of Puebla and Mexico State according to estimates presented earlier this year by Sensiguard, a logistics security firm.
