• ARRESTS: Authorities arrested two suspects linked to the Saturday’s attack by alleged members of the Cartel del Noreste gang against the small rural town of Villa Unión just one hour south of the Texas border, said the Governor of Coahuila, Miguel Riquelme.

• DIRT ROADS: After gun battles that left at least 22 people dead, Riquelme said that a Cartel del Noreste convoy of 25 pick-up trucks arrived from neighboring Tamaulipas state using dirt roads parallel to the US-Mexico border and that at some point it even crossed into the US territory.

• VULNERABILITY: “I also want to make it clear that (Coahuila’s large) territory was precisely one of the issues that left the people Villa Unión vulnerable. (Criminals) go around through areas in the US and get directly through the ranches of Coahuila towards Villa Unión”, Riquelme said.

• MOTIVES: Coahuila authorities said that the attack was meant to terrorize some area outside Villa Union just 39 miles south of Eagle Pass, TX. US authorities have said that the Cartel del Noreste gang is one of remnant factions of the Los Zetas drug trafficking cartel.
