Human rights activist found dead in Guerrero state

• MURDER: Forty days after being reported disappeared, Arnulfo Cerón -an indigenous Nahua human rights defender- was found dead in a clandestine grave in southern state of Guerrero causing grave condemnation by many in the international community.

• CANADA: “I regret the murder of #ArnulfoCerón. The work of human rights defenders is very very important and it is essential to protect them. My deepest condolences to his family and friends”, the new Ambassador of Canada to Mexico, Graeme C. Clark, wrote on Twitter.

• TLAPA: A leader in the Mountain Popular Front, Cerón was found dead in dirt road near the city of Tlapa de Comonfort (pop. 46,000); authorities confirmed that at least 9 alleged members of a local gang were arrested under suspicion of being linked to the murder.

• TARGETS: According to numbers gathered by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Mexico, a total of 18 human rights defenders have been killed in Mexico this year; this in addition to 11 journalists also murdered.
