• GOAL: Mexico’s largest seaport of Manzanillo is expected to substantially grow its capacity by the year 2025 after the completion of a USD 1.1 billion expansion by the year 2025, according to prominent group of Mexican exporters who recently met with port and customs authorities.

• PROJECTIONS: Previously, the Mexican government said that the public/private investment in the Cuyutlán Lagoon -just next to the current port- would likely move containers, grains, minerals and oil products; in 2018, Manzanillo moved 2.1 million TEU (inbound/outbound), per Journal of Commerce.

• EXPANSION: “All the coming year is going to be about finishing projects, permits and funding. (The port expansion) foresees that of the almost 500 hectares that it has now, it will reach almost 2,000”, said Miguel Ángel Landeros from the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade (COMCE).

• 24/7 HOURS: In another move to help ease congestion, the Mexican Finance Ministry said in March that the customs office at Manzanillo would gradually expand its hours of operations to a 24/7 schedule. Current customs weekdays hours in Manzanillo are 8 am to 9 pm.
