• OPTIMISM: Industry leaders in Los Cabos -the seaside resort in Mexico’s Baja peninsula- are optimistic that number of rooms available will grow from 18,500 in 2019 to 21,500 in 2021 boosted by the arrival of new projects by high-end hotel chains like Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton.

• AHEAD: National statistics agency (INEGI) reported earlier this year that Mexico saw in 2018 the smallest growth in foreign tourism revenue; this however does not seem to be affecting Los Cabos where the room occupancy rate in 2018 was at 69%, ahead of the national average.

•FUTURE: “The reason of why these brands come here…is because there is a long-term vision….where there is a job of sustainability, promotion, security, connectivity and that the natural resources are preserved”, said Rodrigo Esponda, general manager of Los Cabos Tourism Board.

•VIOLENCE: Since October 2017 when murders reached a historical monthly record of 143 murders, security has decisively improved in the Baja California State -the formal name of the State where Los Cabos is located- all the way down to only 5 murders, according to Mexico’s public security system.
