• BET ON MEXICO Amazon’s has launched its Prime Video Channels service for Mexico allowing Prime Video subscribers to add individual channels for a monthly subscription fee. Mexico joins the US, Canada, the UK, Germany and Japan as the only other countries where the service is available.

• CUSTOMER CARE For Amazon, the main challenge in Mexico will be customer service a key aspect in the (over the top media) market, according to Josh McIvor, Amazon’s Head of Prime Video International. Per McIvor, competition in the OTT market is mostly focused on customer service. 

• THE MARKET Netflix leads the video streaming in Mexico with 8.7 subscribers, around 80% of the market according to The Competitive Intelligence Unit, a local market intelligence firm. Clarovideo has 14.6% of the market while Blim has 2.7%, HBOGo has 1.5% and Amazon Prime Video just 1.2%. 

• CHANNELS Amazon’s Prime Video Channels that will be available for individual purchase in Mexico are MGM, Acorn TV, Paramount +, CBeebies, HBO, Noggin, Love Nature, Pongalo, Starzplay and four TV Azteca’s channels. You must have an active Prime Video account.
