• POWER OF DELIVERY The arrival of food delivery applications to the largest cities in Mexico has triggered a rise in motorcycle imports as this has become one of the favorite means for delivery couriers, according to official data and local officials who have noticed the surge.

• HUGE RISE Imports of motorcycles to Mexico have surged this year all the way to 88, 947 units imported during the first half of 2019, a huge number when compared to the 7,095 units imported during the first half of 2018, according to data from Mexico’s Ministry of the Economy.

• QUOTE: “Without a doubt motorcycles have risen in number. We see this is because of the arrival of mobile delivery apps where the motorcycle become a means of transport, especially of merchandise”, says Rubén Zaragoza, an official at Nuevo León state government in charge of vehicle registrations.

• THE APPS Food delivery companies with operations in Mexican cities -like Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City- include the American firms like UberEats and Postmates, the Colombian Rappi, the British-owned SinDelantal (Just Eat), and the Chinese DiDi Food.
